Overview

Aloe alaotrensis is native to Madagascar; the protologue records it from forest fragments in the highlands east of Lake Alaotra. [1, 2] It does not form offsets, is sometimes caulescent, and has spotted channelled leaves and arcuate-ascending inflorescences. [2]

Leaves

Leaves are channelled and spotted; young leaves are described as light-green spotted. Fresh exudate is yellow-green. [2]

Inflorescence and flowers

Inflorescences are arcuate-ascending, usually simple and exceptionally one-branched. Racemes are rather lax, capitate or conical; flowers are red, with a slightly curved-clavate perianth whose outer segments are fused for about the basal two-thirds. [2]

Distribution

Native to Madagascar. The protologue records it from the District d’Ambatondrazaka, in ravines east of Lake Alaotra, in forest fragments of the highlands bordering the lake. [1, 2]

Etymology

The epithet refers to the plant growing near Lake Alaotra. [2]
