Aloes Resource & Old World Arid nursery

I usually work for a company while growing plants, mainly Aloe species, on land I inherited from my grandparents. I spend my days caring for Aloe plants in an unheated greenhouse and an outdoor planting area.

About Cultivation

Because Aloe species vary greatly in their characteristics, I place great importance on growing them while paying close attention to the differences in each individual plant. I focus on cultivating and producing a wide variety of Aloe plants in small quantities, and I also sell some of the plants I grow. I hope to reflect the knowledge and experience I gain through cultivation in the information provided on this website.

About This Website

Aloe plants are often sold under ambiguous trade or cultivar names, making it difficult to find accurate scientific names, original descriptions, and locality information.

This website is therefore being redesigned to organize information for each species around the following principles:

  • Taxonomic support, such as Kew’s World Checklist of Vascular Plants (WCVP)
  • Morphological information based on original descriptions and primary literature
  • A clear distinction between trade or cultivar names, wild species, and formally accepted taxonomic names

Sources will be clearly cited throughout. Information that is uncertain or inferred will be explicitly labeled as such, and definitive claims will be avoided where the evidence is inconclusive.

About the Database

I am currently building a trait database for wild species of the genus Aloe, based on original descriptions and primary literature. So far, I have extracted and organized more than 10,000 trait records from descriptions of 525 species, while also cross-referencing them with WCVP to improve accuracy. Going forward, I plan to publish this database gradually on the website in both Japanese and English.

About the Website’s Management

In addition to producing and selling Aloe plants, I plan to introduce new services in the future, including membership-based offerings. These initiatives are intended to help maintain the website sustainably and within reasonable limits. Further details will be announced at a later date.

Request for Support

Access to primary literature, such as original species descriptions, is limited. Please contact me if you are able to provide information or help obtain relevant materials.
